Happy Father's Day!

As the years have come and gone, as a practice we have seen more and more dads coming in with their children for their appointments.  It’s great to see dads stepping into more non-traditional responsibilities and we applaud our dads for that!  KUDOS to you!

We wish all dads and grandfathers a very happy Father’s Day and hope that this year will be filled with lots of memory making moments for you and your families.

And just in time for Father’s Day this Sunday, CBS Sunday Morning news will be discussing paternity leave when a new child joins the family.   Scott and Audrey Brodrick who bring their children to Pediatric health were interviewed for this program.

Scott’s employer provides 6 weeks of paternity leave so fathers have time to bond with their new child.  It’s important for our families to have everyone together to help in the transition of a new family member.

Charles Osgood is the host of the show which airs from 8:00 am to 9:30 am this Sunday.

If you agree with the 65% of Illinois voters who support a penny-per-ounce tax on sugary drinks, we encourage you to call your state legislators and ask them to vote for the HEAL ACT.

The Healthy Eating and Active Living Act (HEAL ACT) if enacted would raise $600 million in taxes on sugary drinks which will be earmarked to fund obesity prevention and shore up Medicaid programs that are vital to so many families.

Your support can have a powerful impact on helping families and especially our young people to realize that the cost of a soda is more than just dollars and cents…it about calories, making healthier choices and reducing their risk for obesity.

Here’s the link to find your state reps:  http://www.elections.il.gov/districtlocator/addressfinder.aspx
Just enter your street address and city then click “find address”.  Confirm it’s the right address and it will provide you with a list of your elected officials.
